Will of Philip Norbury, 1830

Abstract of will

I Philip Norbury the elder of New Brentford ... printer

... I direct that I may be decently buried

... I give & bequeath unto my son Philip Norbury and my daughter Mary Ann Norbury to be equally divided between them

... I nominate my said son Philip Norbury & my good friend Mr Henry EYLES of New Brentford hatter executors

Dated 7th December 1828

Witnessed by Thos JULLION solicitor Brentford & Harriet BROWN

Proved at London on 16th March 1830 by Philip Norbury son one of the executors to whom administraton was granted ... power reserved of making the like grant to Henry EYLES the other executor when he shall apply for the same

The testator

Philip NORBURY ran the printing business which was at no. 110 High Street in 1823. Access to Archives has reference in a document dated 1807 to Philip Norbury the younger and the elder, printers; also a Henry Norbury, printer. Judging from the dates of his children's births (which can be estimated as two of his chidren were alive in 1841) Philip Norbury the elder was born around 1740 - 1750.

The legatees, witnesses & executor

Philip NORBURY the son and Mary Ann NORBURY the daughter: were living at the High Street property in 1841. Ten years later Mary Ann Norbury, unmarried, headed the household (aged 71).

Henry EYLES: a hatter of this name is recorded in New Brentford in an 1826 trade directory.

Harriet BROWN (witness): was a legatee of Elizabeth NORBURY's will in 1828.

Thomas JULLION: a local solicitor. Perry's Bankrupt Gazette 31 October 1835, Insolvents applying to be discharged: Thomas Jullion, of Bow Street, out of business, formerly of Brentford, attorney. See research into earlier generations of the Jullion family.
