The view is taken from Brentford Bridge, which crosses the River Brent, and looks westwards towards Isleworth: this area was known as 'Brentford End' and the road way is 'London Road'.

Brentford Bridge was rebuilt in 1900, a contemporary article in the Chiswick Times describes how this was done.

The modern view shows Commerce Road to the right with Bridge House on the corner.

To the left of the photo, behind a traffic light, the block of brickwork marks the site of the railway bridge over London Road. The GWR spur to Brentford Docks opened in 1859 and closed in 1964.
