I appoint Sarah Julia Sadgrove sole executrix ... dated 12th October 1830 ... witnessed by Thomas Dewell, Tallow Chandler, New Brentford; Henry Newens(?), Baker(?), Old Brentford; Robert Thomas Fletcher, Solicitor, Brentford ... proved at London on 17 August 1852 by the oath of Sarah Julia Sadgrove widow the relict The testatorJohn SADGROVE was recorded in his will and in the 1841 census as a labourer, however in the tithe apportionment he owned and lived in the house at (what was to become) no. 29 High Steet and presumably this prompted him to prepare a will (over 20 years before he died). He married Sarah Julia Bailey at Isleworth in 1815 (FamilySearch).The 1851 census shows he was born in Shiplake, Oxfordshire, and aged 66: his wife was locally born. John had become a grocer by 1851. The National Trust surname distribution map for SADGROVE in 1881 shows it was common in the area of today's Twickenham postal district, which includes Brentford, and Oxfordshire. TopThe witnesses & executorThomas DEWELL: a tallow chandler of this name is recorded in the 1826 trade directory. Henry NEWENS: a Henry Newes, baker,lived at no. 327 High Street, almost opposite John Sadgrove's home, in 1841.Sarah Julia SADGROVE: there is a death of a Sarah Julia Sadgrove in 1854 in Brentford Registration District; there were SADGROVE births, marriages and deaths registered in Brentford from the 1850s and through to the 1920s.
