Death notice for Joseph Dorey, 1884I am grateful to Janet McNamara for forwarding a series of local newspaper cuttings in 2010. They tell the lives of the Dorey family, well known builders in Brentford. This first one is a death notice, published in the Middlesex Independent newspaper, Wednesday September 10 1884. This is an exact transcript excepting I have split the original single paragraph into several so it is easier on the eye. DEATH OF MR. JOSEPH DOREY.Another of the old inhabitants of Brentford has passed away, at the ripe age of 62, namely Mr Joseph Dorey, builder and contractor of High Street and Distillery Road, and of Halden House, Hamilton Road.Mr Dorey has been an invalid for many months, having for some time been confined in a great measure to his home from chronic bronchitis. Mr Dorey, like another gentleman whose sudden death we reported last week, has during the whole of his lifetime been a very hard worker, and a very active man of business. With the assistance of his sons he has built up one of the largest concerns of its class in Brentford. and in doing so has won the respect and esteem of his neighbours and fellow townsmen. His death took place on Sunday, and the funeral takes place tomorrow (Thursday) at Ealing Cemetery. TopPage published May 2010 |
