Not Brentford

Winter scene, Boston Road, Brentford

David Vesey sent this image of a charming family watercolour painted by Auguste Ballard around 1900/1905. It shows a scene taken from a point just north of Fern Bank at 81 Boston Rd, a few doors down from Auguste at 75 Boston Rd.

Number 81 was the home of John BURNHAM ( wife Frances nee RUSSELL) and for varying periods of time their 3 sons and 3 daughters. John Burnham was a 'Spurgeon's Evangelist' and appears from family papers to have been a very active member of the Park Baptist Church.

See David's related requests for images of Park Baptist Chapel and the area near Fern Bank.

Wintry scene

Janet McNamara found a photo by M. Ballin in Fred Turner's History and Antiquities of Brentford, published 1922, which shows a very similar view. It is captioned 'Boston Road , Brentford (Winter scene): probable British trackway to St. Albans'.

The site has more information about Boston Road including a postcard view.
