St George's School Photos, 1925 and 1926Diane Elphick (Gardner) sent four class photos taken outside St George's School during 1925, 1926, 1930 and around 1947. Mr DuBois features in all four as a teacher then later as headmaster. The earliest two photos show Class 3 in 1925 (19 boys) and Class 5 in 1926 (21 girls). The boys may be around 9-10 (although some could be 12), the girls may be a little younger - those on the front row look 5 or 6, but others could be 9 or 10. Diane adds: Mr DuBois the teacher and Reg Gardner, lived in Bedford Road and later Burford Road, is 2nd left back row. He played in the school football team. Peggy Butcher is at the end of the back row in front of the lady teacher. Later she worked in Cox's sweetshop on the corner of Greet Road and Pottery Road. The website has a good collection of school photos thanks to several contributors, including others of St George's School. Please get in touch if you can add any names. Published November 2016 |
