Jack Clarke, Army Service Corps Motor Transport Football TeamJanet McNamara sent several photos featuring Brentford's John May (Jack) Clarke, born 1889.Jack is at the front on the right and wearing goggles which suggests that he was a motor cycle rider. The team was of the 132nd Company of the ASCMT and the photo presumably dates from 1914 - 1918, when Jack was in his mid to late 20s. The note at the bottom right corner reads "W M Jones, Coleford, BAT...'. This could be 'WM Jones, the author of the 'Jarge Balsh' books, lived most of his life in Coleford, running the Crossways Stores (now the Co-op), and was an avid photographer , taking many photos of village life. Many of these along with many of his writings can be found at http://jargebalsh.blogspot.com/ If you can add any names please get in touch. Published October 2012 |
