Albany Parade Flats Demolition 2025In February 2025 Janet McNamara reported 'Albany Parade is surrounded by hoardings awaiting demolition.' Her neighbour Y M-C Jamin took some great photos of the demolition during October and November 2025. The area is due to be redeveloped, and not for the first time... A brief history of Albany Parade from the British Newspaper ArchiveIn February 1960 Brentford and Chiswick Council asked Middlesex County Council to approve a transfer of around 15,500 square feet (1,440 square metres) of land for the High Street and Albany Road redevelopment scheme. The cost of the scheme: £¼ million. Albany Parade was to be homes for council tenants. In April/May 1961 it was reported that the new shops and flats at the junction of High Street and Albany Road were nearing completion. Graduated rents would assist traders with some start-up costs met by the council. In late November 'Brentford and Chiswick Borough Council invite tenders for rents for 21-year leases of some new shops in the Albany Parade which comprise the ground floor of an imposing multi-storey block of flats and maisonettes.' The Middlesex Independent of 26 May featured an illustrated piece 'An easy-does-it council plan to rebuild Brentford. January 1962: 'The new look of the High Street will be greatly improved when the new County Court is opened in September' and 'tenders for the leases of the remaining ten shops at Albany Parade are being dealt with ... when these shops are occupied a particularly grim portion of the old High Street will have been transformed ... making way for the new Brentford.' An advertisement seeking bricklayers for the Albany Road Development Brentford appeared in June 1963 'Top rates of pay. Bonus scheme in operation.' The following month Compuslory Purchase Orders were made for 1 to 11 Green Dragon Lane; 273, 273a and 276 to 279 Brentford High Street; 23, 24, 25 and 25a Walnut Tree Road; and numbers 26 to 44 Windmill Road.
