STANLEY ALFRED JONES 1920-2005Stanley joined the family business after leaving school and at the outbreak of war aged 19 he joined the Royal Air Force where he was a Spitfire pilot. In 1940 was awarded his wings and posted to 118 Squadron at wartime airfield Ibsley in Hampshire. In June 1942 whilst leading a section of Spitfires which were part of the fighter cover for an American Fortress raid over occupied France he had engine failure due to a drop in oil pressure. After the war Stanley returned to the family business working in the offices with his father managing the company. He qualified as an engineer whilst in the company and also held the post of Chairman of the Middle Thames Ship and Boat Builders Association. He worked as company secretary until his retirement in 1981 when his share of the company was brought by Janet Barbara Harris, wife of E.G. Harris. Stanley married Amabel Barbara in 1946 and they had a son Roderick Nigel born 29 August 1951 and Deborah Camilla born 10 January 1955.
