Not Brentford

Will of Charles Sims, salesman of Old Brentford, 1809

Abstract of will

... I give devsise and bequeath unto my dear wife Elizabeth Sims (if she remains unmarried) ... rents, issues and profits of all my estates both freehold and copyhold ... to educate such of my children as shall be under age at the time of my decease

... children Thomas Sims, John Sims, Charles Sims, Michael Sims, Elizabeth Sims, George Sims and Christopher Sims ... £200 each

... Trustees and their wives ... mourning ring each

... (all estate not disposed of by my wife) to brother James Sims of Noyradisbury ? Buckinghamshire and George BURR of Richmond Surrey gentleman

... dated 18 November 1802

... witnessed by George CLARK; Jas MONTGOMERY; G CLARK junior

... proved 25 May1809 by the oath of Elizabeth Sims, widow

The testator

Charles Sims had seven children under 21 in 1802, suggesting he married around 1780 to 1790.

The 1801 census for Ealing shows a Charles Sims living in Old Brentford, the household comprising 5 males and 2 females, a resonable fit to the list of children above. Honour Amelia Sims was recorded next on the schedule, possibly a relative.

There are several references to the Sims family on this site including a family page that includes Charles Sims. The site also has an abstract of the will of John Sims, 1836.

The location of James Sims is not clear in the will but appeared to end 'disbury' and be in Buckinhamshire. The GENUKI website includes parish lists by county; searching for 'sbury' in Buckinghamshire using my browser found three place-names: Aylesbury, Cholesbury and Wraysbury - the last seems the best fit; if you have any suggestions please get in touch.

How to see this will in full
