The witnesses & executors

Henry RICHARDS, the surgeon, lived next door to Robert Hazell in 1841 and later married Elizabeth HAZELL: see notes for number 295 for more details.

Joseph Stroud TUBB, the assistant to Robert Hazell, was living at no. 100 High Street in 1841 and had his own assistant. There is a PCC will of a Joseph Stroud TUBB in 1844.

Elizabeth HAZELL, widow, had a daughter Emily from her first marriage who would have been 9 at the time of the 1841 census but was not at home. Following her re-marriage to Henry RICHARDS, the 1851 census shows Elizabeth with a new daughter, Mary E aged 1, and her daughter Emily HAZELL aged 19. Elizabeth (nee SAUNDERS) was 48 in 1851 and born in Chiswick.

John SAUNDERS, father in law to Robert HAZELL, died between 1838 and 1840. In the 1851 - 1871 censuses an Ann SAUNDERS lived at no. 295. She was 60 years old in 1861 so a contemporary of Elizabeth (nee SAUNDERS): possibly a sister as she is described as unmarried in the earlier two censuses. In 1851 there were two younger SAUNDERS sisters living with Ann at 295: Harriott and Emma, all born Chiswick.

Robert W HAZELL, the son: in 1851 he was living at 69 Edware Road St Marylebone with his wife Anne (born Paddington) and son Robert aged 2, born Worcester and 1 month old daughter Annie M. Robert senior was a chemist & druggist. Also in the household were two female servants, Hannah PEPTIT a 50 year old monthly nurse, and finally a visitor, James L BRAZIER, an analytical chemist born Rye, Sussex. FamilySearch includes the birth of RObert William Hazell in New Brentford on 8 Nov 1824 (record submitted by an individual).

George HAZELL: the brother who owed money. A George Hazell, fishmonger, lived with his wife Phebe in Carshalton in 1841. There is a marriage between George Hazell and Phebe PARKER at St George in the Borough (Southwark) in 1825 (Pallot's Marriage Index). This is only circumstantial evidence, there may be other contenders.
