Lock Keeper's Cottage, Brentford, 1997

Fay Twydell has provided this photo from 1997: 'I used to pay the rent to Mr. Barlow, Waterways employee, who was lock keeper here when I was a child'.

The cottage was built in 1911 and stands on the island created when the Grand Junction Canal was cut across a loop of the River Brent. Tolls based on the weight of goods carried by the barges were collected here. The cottage is also visible in Fay's photo of Brentford Lock.
