Photo showing Boltons: House Furnishers, Brentford

Double fronted shop

Andy Bolton kindly provided this photo. He wrote 'My ancestors lived in New Brentford, some for around 100 years, starting with James Bolton who arrived around 1876-9 (who founded Bolton & Son, house furnishers, eventually sold in 1970).'

Boltons offered furnishings, french polishing, blinds, curtains, carpets and linos, according to the signwork on their shop front.

Andy suggested the photo might be of no. 237 High Street, but since he wrote a photo which is definitely no. 237 has been located. Boltons were at no. 191/2 in 1913 - 1933 trade directories and at no. 187 in 1933 and 1940 so it is likely that the photo shows one of these properties. Number 191/2 was described as a double shop with 'upper parts stuccoed' which fits the bill.
