St Paul's Road, around 1966

B/w photo looking up a road towards a church

Diane Lockie has provided this photo, taken by her father around 1966.

The view is up St Paul's Road, with the spire of St Paul's visible. On the left corner is the Feathers PH at no. 232, on the right no. 233 was a coffee house, then cafe. The advertising sign says ' Make the most of High Speed Gas'.

The scaffolding on the left of St Paul's Road shows the building of the new Police Station on Half Acre was underway.

The distinctive pyramid-topped post in the left foreground is also visible in an old postcard of Dock Road area, this page also includes a link showing a similar view to the above taken 15 years later.

More information about number 232 and 233 onwards.
