Market Place around 1905

Stewart Parsley has provided a scan of this postcard, dating from around 1905.
Market with fair
The view was taken looking across the High Street to Market Place and shows the Three Pigeons Hotel on the corner, at 195 High Street.

The fair is underway. According to 'Brentford and Chiswick As It Was' the fair was held on 17th May and 12th September until 1932.

On the eastern corner of Market Place the sign 'Titus' is Titus Ward, grocers, 196 High Street, who appear at this address in a 1907 directory. When the 1911 directory was compiled, this shop was Boots Cash Chemists Ltd.

In the foreground the tramlines are visible.
