Brentford Families - Perugini

Liz Blair writes 'I was researching the well known water colour artist Laurence Perugini when I found this name listed on your site. I wonder if the person mentioned as living at 80 High Street in 1917 is the artist? Born 1880, died during the war in 1940. He lived latterly at Rye Sussex and he exhibited from 1935-37. Further info is available in the Dictionary of British Artists Volume V.'

I replied 'I am sure the man at no. 80 is that man. I have checked census returns and in 1891 he is recorded living in Chiswick with his mother Florence, an actress. Chiswick is only a mile or two from Brentford.'

'His full name appears to have been Laurence Stanley Perugini, son of Edward (from Italy) and Florence; his family appear to have settled in Chiswick between 1882 and 1883. LSP appears to have married Ruth Soane in Fulham registration district in 1907. No children are recorded in the 1911 census.'

'1920 - 1925 phone directories: Laurence S Perugini, Decorative Artist, Designer, 75 Boston Road, Brentford'

Liz sent the following two examples of limited edition prints. 'The artist's work seems to be very popular in America and one poster in particular seems to be for sale online in many outlets.'

Watercolour: vase of flowers including iris Watercolour: vase of flowers including snapdragons

'There is even an original watercolour by the artist in Baghdad Museum, Iraq, according to their old archives.'
