Brentford Families - Johnson

Author

Patricia Johnson Parma, gt gt granddaughter of John Johnson.

John Johnson (1814 - )

John Johnson was born on 4 July 1814 in Isleworth the youngest son of John Johnson and Maria. he married Matilda White (born on 18 May 1815 in Uxbridge Middlesex) on 26th March 1837 in Fulmer Buckinghamshire.

From 1861 to 1891 he is on the census returns as Fishmonger living at High Street Brentford. It is only on the 1891 that we have the number 253 but considering that his neighbours in the preceding 20 years were John Thick and family. John Thick is given as a licenced victualler and on one of the census living at the One Tun Public House. John Johnson died in 1894 two years after his wife Matilda.

Samuel Johnson

Samuel Johnson, son of John, was probably carrying on the horse knacker business from his home in The Ham. On the 1901 census he is given as a horse dealer and stable keeper, employer.

According to my aunt born in 1927 he was running some stables at the Castle Inn or Hotel on Brentford High Street in the late 1920s as she can remember going there with her youngest brother to see her grandfather.
