Adverts from St George's Parish Magazine, 1898

Thanks to Janet McNamara for providing these.

Page of adverts: E Newens baker; H Lockyer butcher; Brown's cheap drapery; A E Steele cowkeeper & dairyman; Hardy & Co coals; N A Moncrieff draper; Joseph Dorey builder; William Lee butcher; J J Blindell clothiers; J Stringer pork butcher; William Borer clothiers; Fresson's Drug Stores; William J Douglas bootmaker; A Argent corn, coal, flour & seed merchant

As well as placing a trader at a particular address between censuses, the adverts also include some useful snippets of information:

  • William Lee the butchers was 'late O'Hara' and the business was established 50 years in 1898 (an 1889 advert makes the same assertion)
  • J Stringer the butcher was late 'R W Hughes' and this business was established in 1798
  • William Borer's business was established in 1863

The parish magazines for St George are held at Chiswick Library.
