Christmas Gift 1947

Footmuff
The above is from 'Woman's Own' Friday 5th December 1957, part of a double-page spread titled 'Make your Christmas presents'.

I hope you can make out the text, which describes how to adapt an ex-army gas-mask case into a footmuff 'For Grandma'.

Other options include a set of table mats 'For Mother', made out of '12 exposed whole-plate glass negatives...(obtainable from a photographer)' and 'For Baby', a 'charming beauty basket' made from a fruit basket from the greengrocers.

I was struck by the ingenuity, the lack of detailed instructions (obviously folk had more 'nous' in those days, and the effort required.
